Lines on your TV screen don't automatically mean you need a new screen. In many LED TVs, the panel itself is fine — the fault is in the thin flexible connectors (COF) and source drivers that are bonded along the edge of the glass. With the right equipment, these can be repaired.
City Electronics uses a professional panel bonding machine at our Aligarh workshop. It applies precise heat and pressure to re-bond or replace COF strips onto the panel using ACF (anisotropic conductive film) — the same process used in panel factories. This lets us fix display problems that most local shops can only solve by replacing the whole screen.

Common symptoms
- One or more thin vertical lines (coloured or black)
- Thick vertical band of distorted colour
- Horizontal lines across the picture
- Left or right half of the screen dark or garbled
- Dots, flicker or shaking lines that change when the panel edge is pressed
- Lines that appear after the TV warms up
What causes it?
Weak COF bonding
Heat cycles over years loosen the bond between the COF strip and the glass, breaking a few signal lines. This creates vertical lines.
Failed source driver IC
The driver chip on a COF can fail, causing a wide band or a section of the screen to go bad.
Gate driver problems
Faults along the side of the panel (gate side) produce horizontal lines or half-screen issues.
Pressure or impact on the panel edge
Pressing on the frame while wall-mounting, cleaning or transporting the TV can crack fine traces.
How we fix it
- 1We first rule out the T-Con board and cables, because some line faults start there.
- 2The panel is opened in a dust-controlled area and the faulty COF is identified using a test pattern.
- 3The old bond is removed, the glass edge is cleaned, and new ACF tape is laid.
- 4The COF is aligned under magnification and bonded on the panel bonding machine.
- 5The TV is reassembled and tested with full-screen colour patterns for several hours.
Typical turnaround
1 to 3 days depending on panel size
Panel repairs typically take 1 to 3 days. Larger panels (55 inches and up) need more careful handling and may take a little longer. If a replacement COF must be ordered, we'll let you know the expected date.
Frequently asked questions
Can every line on the screen be repaired?
Not every one. Lines caused by COF bonding, driver ICs and T-Con faults are usually repairable. Lines caused by a crack in the glass or internal panel damage are not — then screen replacement is the option. We'll test and tell you before starting.
How much cheaper is panel repair than a new screen?
In most cases panel repair costs a fraction of a replacement panel, especially on 43-inch and larger TVs where panels are expensive.
Will the lines come back after repair?
A properly bonded COF is very durable. We use quality ACF and a controlled bonding process, and every repair comes with a service warranty.
Which brands' panels can you repair?
We work on panels used in Samsung, LG, Sony, Mi, TCL, VU, Haier, Panasonic, Philips and most other LED TVs.
