The motherboard — also called the main board or mainboard — is the brain of your TV. It processes the signal from HDMI, USB, antenna and apps, runs the smart TV software, and sends the picture to the panel and sound to the speakers. When it fails, your TV may switch on but show nothing, freeze on the logo, or lose one input completely.
Many shops simply replace the whole board, which can be expensive and sometimes unavailable for older models. At City Electronics we start with chip-level diagnosis: checking voltage rails, the processor, memory (eMMC/NAND and RAM), HDMI circuits and audio amplifier. Very often a single faulty component can be replaced and the original board saved.

Common symptoms
- TV turns on but stays on a black or blue screen
- Stuck on the brand logo or restarting repeatedly
- One HDMI port, USB or antenna input not working
- No sound while the picture is fine
- Remote and buttons not responding
- Wi-Fi or Bluetooth missing from settings
- Picture freezes or the TV hangs after some time
What causes it?
Failed eMMC memory
Memory chips wear out over years of smart TV use, causing boot loops and freezes.
Voltage regulator faults
Small DC-DC converters on the board fail after surges, cutting power to the processor or RAM.
Static or surge through HDMI / antenna
Plugging devices in while powered, or lightning through cable wiring, can damage input circuits.
Overheating
Dust and poor ventilation behind wall-mounted TVs cause the processor area to overheat.
How we fix it
- 1We confirm the power supply is healthy so we're not chasing the wrong fault.
- 2Each voltage rail on the main board is measured and compared to its expected value.
- 3Faulty components are located with thermal checking and component testing.
- 4Components are replaced at chip level, or the memory is reprogrammed with correct firmware.
- 5If the board is beyond repair, we arrange a compatible replacement board and configure it for your panel.
Typical turnaround
1 to 3 days
Most motherboard repairs take 1 to 3 days. Where a replacement board must be ordered, it can take a few days more — we'll confirm the timeline and price first.
Frequently asked questions
Can a motherboard always be repaired?
Most can. When the main processor itself is damaged, replacement is the better option, and we'll explain the cost difference.
Will my apps and settings be lost?
If memory is reflashed or the board is replaced, the TV returns to factory settings. You'll need to log back into apps like YouTube and Netflix.
My TV has sound but HDMI shows 'No signal'. Is that the motherboard?
Often yes — an HDMI port or its protection circuit on the main board. It can usually be repaired without replacing the board.
