The T-Con (Timing Control) board sits between the main board and the display panel. It takes the picture signal and converts it into the precise timing signals that switch millions of pixels on and off. When it fails, the TV still powers on and the sound is fine, but the picture looks wrong in ways that confuse many people.
Because T-Con faults look similar to panel faults, a wrong diagnosis can mean an unnecessary screen replacement. At City Electronics we test the T-Con separately — checking its supply voltages, gamma voltages and output signals — to confirm whether it, or the panel, is the real problem.

What causes it?
Failed DC-DC converter on T-Con
The small power stage that makes panel voltages is a very common failure point.
Damaged gamma IC or timing chip
Causes colour and contrast errors.
Loose or damaged LVDS / V-by-One cable
A bad cable between the main board and T-Con produces flicker and noise — sometimes just reseating fixes it.
Short on the panel side
A shorted panel line can damage the T-Con; we check this so the repaired board isn't damaged again.

How do I know if it's the T-Con or the panel?
We test both. As a rough guide, faults affecting the whole picture evenly (negative colours, ghosting, grey screen) point to the T-Con; individual lines often point to the panel or COF.
Is T-Con repair cheaper than panel repair?
Yes, generally much cheaper — which is why correct diagnosis matters before deciding on a panel.
Some TVs don't have a separate T-Con. What then?
Some smaller TVs integrate the T-Con into the main board. We diagnose and repair that section of the main board instead.
